I woke up with an unusual amount of eye gunk. It was gooey and actually on my eyeballs. Should I be worried?

It was in both eyes. I don't think it's pink eye. My eyes aren't that pink. And normally its on the corners of your eye. isn't it? All crusty and such? Well all of this was on my eye, wet and gooey and disgusting.
