What does it mean when a guy tells you about his ex...?

Perhaps he's just 'Feeling you out' and is unsure of proceeding with a relationship with you. Sounds to me like he's not over his past yet. If I were you I'd be there for him as a 'Friend' that's probably what he wants right now and if it leads to more down the road then go for it.
